The brief moments of any station or program that represent the essence of who they are (or who they perceive themselves to be). A mission statement in glossy garb, these bits of sound are one part marketing, one part calling card, and one part battle cry. The following were conceptualized and produced by me for on-air play.

Vocalo.org “Remixed and Stirred” ID series
mission for the series
Vocalo.org was built on the premise of remix culture: that is with the expectation that bits of sound matter would be tweaked and combined into something altogether new and different. I wanted these Identifiers to reflect that. Pulling audio from vintage airchecks, blooper reels, and newer audio sources, I mixed the IDs like snappy little songs, complete with a chorus. Because Vocalo.org deals mainly with audio recorded by non-professionals, it was also important that they sounded somewhat gritty.

I wanted these to sound very rich: full bass, reverb, the whole nine. I wanted them to sound somewhat off-kilter, and yet convey a certain level of sophistication.

We offer programs that speak with many voices to community needs and are a reflection of the distinctive and diverse Chicago area. We help listeners learn about issues and ideas that affect the community, the nation, and the world.
My Identifiers & Promos were created to reflect the diversity of the lifeblood of Chicago: the community.
